The Boxcar Children

The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner was first published in 1942. This story occurs most likely in the 30's or 40's. This story is told using third person.

There are four main characters in this book. They are:
Henry who is 14;
Jessie who is 12;
Violet who is 10;
Benny who is 5.

This book is about four children whose mother and father have died and they think their grandfather will be mean to them so they run away before he can come and get them. They make a home out of an old boxcar and Henry goes to work in Silver City where he meets a nice man named Dr. Moore. All goes well until Violet gets sick and the children find that their supposedly mean grandfather in really a nice man and it is with him that they have many great adventures!
