This book begins on a mountaintop where a boy by the name of Daniel works with an outlaw. All he wants is revenge on the romans that killed his father. Throughout the book he goes through many hardships and loses many people that are near and dear to him but in the end Jesus teaches him a lesson that he will not soon forget! This book about forgiveness is hard to understand at first but after you have read a few of the chapters, it starts to make more and more sense.

Surprise Island (book # 2 of the boxcar children series)

Surprise Island by Gertrude Chandler Warner was first published in1949. It is written in third person.

Then main characters in this book are:

Henry who is 15
Jessie who is 12
Violet who is 10
and Benny who is 6

The children are glad to hear that they are going to be going on a wonderful adventure. They sail out to an island that their grandfather owns and stay there for the summer. As they stay there more and more they find that there is a mystery involved. There is a mysterious handyman on the island and they decide to find out who he is!

Mr. Revere and I

Mr. Revere and I by Robert Lawson was first published in 1953. It is an account of Paul Revere's ride written by his horse. It is written in first person.

The main characters in this book are:

1) Sherrie (the horse)
2) Paul Revere

This book is a book that his horse supposedly wrote. The horse was originally a loyalist and had a friend whom she thought was loyal... Ajax. But when she turns patriot she learns that Ajax is NOT a true friend at all. He doesn't like her anymore and calls her a traitor and a country bumpkin. But Sherrie is about to find a true friend- a friend that will stick by her side no matter what!

The Courage of Sarah Noble by Alice Dalgliesh was first published in 1954. This story occurs in 1707 in the wilderness. This story is told using third person.


There is one main character in this book and her name is:

Sarah Noble

This book is about Sarah Noble and has many true facts but most of this book Alice had to dream up because there are not many known facts about her. In this book Sarah uses a cloak like a security blanket because it reminds her of home when there is no home anywhere near. She meets Indians along the way and even lives with them for a while. You really should read this book.

The Boxcar Children

The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner was first published in 1942. This story occurs most likely in the 30's or 40's. This story is told using third person.

There are four main characters in this book. They are:
Henry who is 14;
Jessie who is 12;
Violet who is 10;
Benny who is 5.

This book is about four children whose mother and father have died and they think their grandfather will be mean to them so they run away before he can come and get them. They make a home out of an old boxcar and Henry goes to work in Silver City where he meets a nice man named Dr. Moore. All goes well until Violet gets sick and the children find that their supposedly mean grandfather in really a nice man and it is with him that they have many great adventures!

The Magician's Nephew

The Magician's Nephew by C. S. Lewis was first published in January 1995. This story occurs when "your grandfather was a child". This story is told using third person.

There are two main characters in this book. They are:

Polly Plummer
Digory

This book has a lot of magic in it. Polly and Digory go into Digory's attic which is forbidden to them. It turns out that Digory's uncle is a magician and he sends them into another world- or more like world between worlds- with a ring. They turn up in a wood with many, many pools of water and these are the portals to other lands. They go into one of the pools after marking the one they came out of them and turn up in a palace that is in ruins. Digory rings a bell which brings dozens of wax figures to life! The palace falls in ruins and they barely get out alive- just to find that the lady that helped the escape is an evil witch! All of this and more are in The Magician's Nephew. Try it for yourself!
