The Cricket in Times Square

The Cricket in Times Square by Garth Williams was first published in 1960. It is written in first person.

The main characters in this book are:

Chester Cricket
Tucker Mouse
Harry Cat
Mario

When one day a cricket arrives by train to Times square in New York, he stays a while and one night while he is listing to the radio, Tucker mouse knocks over a box of matches and accidentally sets fire to Mario's father's news stand. Mario's mother is sure that that 'cricketer' started the fire and orders him out until she hears him chirping a familiar tune. From then on, Chester is in a place he's never been before... singing whenever the clock says so and not just for pleasure. See what happens in this book about a friendship never to be broken.
